The Bandstand Is Still Doing Most Of The Work
Almost everything worth putting on your phone this month begins at the Esplanade Park Bandstand. The Twilight Concerts wind down the summer with The Joint Chiefs Band on August 5, following Santa Cruz Latin Collective on July 29, Extra Large on July 22, and Mercy & The Heartbeats on July 15. Concerts run 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, June through August, at the Esplanade Park Bandstand.
When the Wednesday concert series ends, the Bandstand doesn't go dark. Capitola Recreation's Dueling Pianos LIVE takes over Esplanade Park on Wednesdays August 26 and September 2, from 6 to 8 p.m., free and family-friendly. Same bench, same seawall, same walk home. The Wharf Runs Its Own Sunday Track
If you want an afternoon that doesn't require sunset timing, the Wharf is the answer. Boogie on the Wharf runs 3 to 5 p.m. Sundays on August 3, September 7, and September 21, with DJ Sun and free dance lessons at each date — WorldDanz with Gina Garcia on August 3, line dance with Jeremy Pilling on September 7, and line and Charleston with Nora McKenna on September 21.
The Sunday-afternoon slot is deliberate. It is when the beach parking below the Esplanade turns over, and when the walk back up Wharf Road toward Monterey Avenue feels like the town belongs to the people who live in it again. Two of the three dates fall in September, which is the real signal: the city is putting its programming budget where the residents are, not where the peak-season crowd was.

Two September Weekends Change The Village's Shape
